Advocacy – Linda’s Story

Earlier this year, in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, Linda* wanted to see her Dad who was in a care home. Contact had been restricted and the family were struggling to get updates or arrange visits.

Our Advocacy team worked with Linda to understand her rights and the care home’s obligations. We supported her in meetings with the care home manager and local authority, and helped draft formal requests that set out clearly what Linda and her Dad needed.

Linda was able to re-establish regular contact with her Dad, including window visits when in-person meetings weren’t possible. She says having an advocate in her corner made her feel less alone in a really difficult period.
