Alternative Disability Icon

A fresh take on the wheelchair symbol

A more inclusive disability icon

We created this icon as an alternative to the traditional ‘person in a wheelchair’ icon, which is widely used but doesn’t represent most disabled people’s experience of living with a disability or long-term health condition.

It’s one icon, not designed to be split up. Each impairment is shown by shading the applicable area (left to right).

The six impairment areas

Hearing loss / d/Deaf

Visual impairment / blind

Physical impairment

Learning / cognitive impairment

Mental health condition

Invisible / hidden impairment

Use the icon

Please feel free to download and use the logo on your own materials. If you can link it to this webpage, please do, so other people can download and use it themselves.

There are two versions, one for print and one for digital. We want to raise awareness of the breadth of impairments, so please use the icon as it is, don’t change the colour or crop it.

If you have any questions or need the logo in an alternative format, email communications@disabilitypositive.org.
