Get support with making sure your care works for your needs
A Personal Budget is money given to you meet your health or social care needs. You can get a Direct Payment of your personal budget.
If you have health care needs, you will be assessed by your local NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) and be given a Personal Health Budget (PHB).
There are different options for how you can access your PHB, including with a Direct Payment.
If you have social care needs, you will be assessed by your local authority (Council) and be given a Personal Budget. This is often referred to simply as a Direct Payment because many people choose to access their Personal Budget this way.
Personal Budgets help people live independently in their own home, within the community.
You’ll be given a personal budget to spend if your local council or NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) decide you’re eligible for help with your care. You can ask for an assessment from them to find out what your needs are.
The money in your personal budget (social care) or Personal Health Budget (health care) can be paid to you, to help you make more decisions about how it’s spent. This is known as a Direct Payment.
Using a Direct Payment gives you more choice and control in how your care is delivered, who helps you with your care, and when.
