We are all struggling with the cost of gas and electricity. However, many disabled people need to use more energy to keep warm, manage health conditions, or power essential equipment making it hard to reduce energy usage. This means you might fall into debt. But instead of helping people in this situation during the cost of living crisis, energy companies force them onto prepayment meters. This means the gas or electricity will be temporarily disconnected if there is no money to top up the meter.
We’re working with the Disability Poverty Campaign Group to call for a ban on forcing Disabled people onto prepayment meters. Use our template letter to write to your MP. Click here for letter Stop the disconnection of people on prepayment energy meters – Action Network
The government wants to leave it to the energy companies’ goodwill, but that’s not working. Help us put pressure on the government. Please write to your MP and let them know this is an important issue that needs to be addressed. Together, we can make a difference and make sure that disabled people are not left to struggle with high energy bills and disconnections.
