Disability Positive (Disability Positive) has been recognised as a Disability Confident Leader

Disability Positive has been recognised as a Disability Confident Leader, for our commitment to employing, supporting and encouraging disabled people in the workplace, and encouraging other organisations to do the same.

The Government’s Disability Confident scheme aims to help businesses successfully employ and keep people who are disabled or who have long term conditions by recognising their skills and giving them the opportunities to reach their potential.

We were assessed on areas such as our recruitment process, ensuring our staff have appropriate disability equality training, and  providing a supportive environment that is inclusive and accessible for disabled staff and service users. We also had to show how we promote a disability confident culture and how we encourage others to do the same.

Lynne Turnbull, Chief Executive of Disability Positive said “This is fantastic recognition for Disability Positive especially as we are run by and for people with lived experience of disability or a long term condition. It is a great example of how we are working towards our vision of an equal and inclusive society for disabled people.”

Viki Atherton, Workforce Development and Volunteer Manager said: “We’re delighted to have achieved Disability Confident Leader for continuing to provide a supportive, inclusive and accessible environment for our staff and volunteers.

Seventy three percent of our workforce have lived experience of disability or a long term condition and so we’re really proud to be able to share our experiences with others and help them to become disability confident.”
