Advocacy – Linda’s Story

Earlier this year, in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic Linda* wanted to see her Dad who was at the end of his life.  Her support workers felt this wouldn’t be good for Linda, and were worried about her reaction to the visit and her anxiety about coronavirus.

What did we do to help?

Our advocate was able to help Linda say that she wanted to see her Dad and challenge the idea that it wouldn’t be good for Linda. Our advocate also helped by filling in a risk assessment for the visit to Linda’s Dad. This meant that the visit could happen.

Our advocate then supported Linda by phone before, during and after the visit. Linda’s human rights, and her father’s human rights were upheld.

Linda now feels that she has choices and can challenge decisions herself in the future.
